Advantages and Disadvantages of Studying Abroad

Studying abroad is one of my life goals. Making a decision about it requires deep thinking and serious study. So, I researched the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad, and consulted some students studying at universities in other countries. In this essay, I will talk about my findings.

The advantages of studying abroad mean the things that a person benefits from this experience. I found that there are advantages associated with the study itself. While there are advantages associated with the student's personal life. As for the first type of advantages, the quality of study is better at universities with high rankings in other countries. Moreover, there are majors that don't exist in local universities. Or these majors may exist, but their level differs from the level of the same majors in universities abroad, which provide students with a better experience. Such as medical majors, and other majors related to innovation and the future. As for the advantages of studying abroad on a personal level, this experience teaches new skills and life lessons. Perhaps because the student lives far from home and family. This experience teaches students to be self-reliant. They become responsible for all aspects of their lives. Including food, buying groceries, and chores. Furthermore, studying abroad teaches time management, responsibility, patience, decision-making, and problem-solving. This experience also provides the opportunity to learn about different cultures. In addition to communicating with people of other nationalities and social backgrounds. On the other hand, studying abroad has some disadvantages. The language barrier is one of them, especially if the student is not proficient in English or the language of the country in which he is studying. Another negative aspect of this experience is the financial problems that arise due to the high cost of living there. Or because the student is not spending money wisely. Examples of other disadvantages of studying abroad include: feeling lonely, having difficulty adjusting to the culture there, facing culture shock, and feeling homesick.

The disadvantages of studying abroad should not be generalized, nor should the advantages. I think this experience differs from one person to another. It is better to prepare for everything in advance, and not to give up when facing difficulties at the beginning of the experience.
