Illiteracy
The teacher asked us to write a research paper on illiteracy. In order to know more about this topic, I met one of the teachers who work in literacy centers. He told me new information about illiteracy, like its causes, and the things that encourage adults to learn to read and write. So, In this essay, I will talk about everything I have learned.
Illiteracy is the inability to write and read, while an illiterate is a person who does not write or read. Reading and writing are the basis for development in life, and when people are illiterate, they negatively affect their societies, and may cause a lot of problems. There are many reasons for illiteracy, such as poverty, difficult economic conditions, school dropouts, lack of awareness of the importance of education, and learning difficulties. Many countries suffer from the problem of illiteracy, and seek to eliminate it through educating illiterate people in literacy centers. People in these centers learn to write and read. The teachers of these centers focus on teaching them letters, their pronunciation and writing. The learners in these centers learn short and simple words before they learn long sentences and texts. Then, they graduate, with the ability to write and read. Some may wonder about the reasons that make the illiterate learn when he or she is an adult. The answer is that reading and writing skills in today's world are very important. Everything depends on them, even the simple things, such as shopping, watching TV, using a smartphone, and communicating with others. In addition, people can get better jobs if they know how to read and write. They can also participate in the development of their community.
Illiteracy is a form of ignorance. It prevents the person from being active in life and with others. For this, the whole society must work together to end illiteracy. Through encouraging illiterate people to learn. And helping them to get rid of the shyness and hesitation, that might prevent them from learning. So that our societies develop and prosper.
