A Visit to Jerusalem

We live with my grandmother, from my father's side. She is named Fareha. I love sitting with her after finishing my homework and having my dinner. She has a cozy sweater. Once I sit next to her, she moves to cover my shoulders with that sweater. My grandmother Fareha tells us stories about occupied Palestine. She describes Jerusalem, Nablus, and Jenin. She created in our minds such a wonderful picture! Finally! I had the chance to visit Palestine.

I am Ramah, and I am in grade 7. I always hear fascinating stories about Palestine, but my dream became a reality. On the 5th of March, 2021, I went with my parents to visit our aunt Lama in Jerusalem. She is married, and she has two kids; Ahmad, and Saleh. They spend most of their time playing in the backyard. Jerusalem is full of trees, in particular olive trees. Once you step into the country, this is the first smell that will enter your nose. For me, I smelled kind of fragrant, it comes from their vast lands. I saw farmers everywhere. They still hold all the old traditions and costumes. This really evoked my proudness. I felt for a while that I am in heaven. My aunts’ husband prepared a plan for us in order to visit all the places in Jerusalem. We went to see the Dome of the rock. It is one of the Islamic stones. After that, we went to pray in Al Aqsa Mosque. At school, they told us that it is the third holiest site in Islam. It looks charming, spectacular, and breathtaking. People who live in Jerusalem are very kind. They keep smiling regardless of the pain, sieges, and sudden attacks.

Jerusalem was one of the places that I visited. I will never forget the experience. It is printed now in my memory. Now I have my own picture. Many thanks to my grandmother Fareha.
