Helping the Poor

Participating in charity is one of my favorite activities. I love putting smiles on the faces of those in need. A while ago, my school launched a campaign to help the poor. In this essay, I will talk about my participation in that campaign. In addition to the lessons I have learned.

We started the campaign by collecting financial and in-kind donations. Some of us donated money, while others donated food and clothes. After collecting the donations, we teamed up to divide them equally among the poor families. Then we formed groups, each one supervised by a teacher, and we set out to distribute aid. We visited many needy people. I felt that they were happier because of the initiative than the aid they received. I felt they were happy because someone was thinking and caring about them. We all felt that there is still good in life, and we can count on each other in difficult times. That campaign taught me many lessons. I learned that happiness can be achieved for the less fortunate in simple ways, with small initiatives, and with minimal means. I learned that poverty is not a shame, and that helping the poor means helping the community we all live in. Another thing I learned is that we should always help people in need because we may go through similar circumstances one day. Then we may need someone to help us. Of course, we will receive the same help as we used to provide it to others. The greatest benefits of helping the poor, in my view, are spreading goodness, mercy, kindness and other virtues in society. In addition to encouraging people to help others even with the least and simplest means, and to achieve unity in society.

In the future, I would like to participate in larger campaigns to help the poor. I also aspire to establish a foundation to help them. I will work to spread awareness about the importance of this in the community. And I will encourage others to do so, however small their means.
